When I Discovered Treasures I Did Not Know

I knew the names of some landmarks in my city, Waddan, but my knowledge of them did not go beyond those names. I used to hear about the Minaret of Waddan and Al-Toza, and I knew they were city landmarks, but I never stopped to research their history or learn their true value. Therefore, when I had the opportunity to visit them and get to know them up close, I discovered that I had been living near historical and cultural treasures without realizing their value.

My visit to the Minaret of Waddan was one of the moments that affected me most. When I entered it and began to learn its details, I felt a sense of wonder, and I began to ask myself: How could I have known only the name of this place, while it holds all this history? As for Al-Toza, I knew it before, but my knowledge of it was very limited. Mr. Abdullatif Al-Jalladi helped me get to know it more deeply through his information-rich explanation of its history and importance, which made me see it with a completely different perspective.

This experience made me feel that I had been oblivious to an important aspect of my city. There are places we may pass by or hear their names repeatedly, without thinking about the stories they carry or the history they stand as witnesses to. What most displeased me is that many people, especially those from our city, may only know the names of these landmarks, and perhaps they do not know their value and importance. This made me feel a greater desire to know the history of my city and discover the places and landmarks it hides.

This experience was special and beautiful for me, not only because I visited new places, but because it changed the way I look at my city. My desire increased to discover more of Waddan's history and landmarks, and to search for places I might still be unaware of. I realized that my city holds treasures and antiquities that deserve to be known and taken pride in, and that sometimes the most beautiful thing we can discover is something that was close to us all along, but we did not notice.
